The Best Daughter in the World
April 22nd, 2008I have the best daughter that any parent could ever ask for. My little 8 year-old has such a big heart, and is the most thoughtful little girl that you could ever want. She is such a sweetheart and she amazes me every day. I was reminded last night how truly beautiful she is.
Since we came back from Las Vegas, I have not been able to find my iPod. Now, I’m sure it’s around or still in a suitcase, but I just haven’t really looked for it yet. Anyway, yesterday when I came home from work, I simply mentioned that I thought that I lost my iPod to Jen and Arianna. And that was pretty much the extent of the conversation.
Later on that evening, about an hour after Arianna went to bed, she came downstairs with her iPod and said to me “Daddy, you can have my iPod since you lost yours”. This is my 8 year-old! She was in her bed thinking about me and she thought she would make me happy by giving me her iPod. I gave her a big hug, and I could tell by her facial expression and the tone of her voice that she was emotional. She climbed up on my lap and put her arms around me. It was like the world stopped for a moment. At least mine did. It made her feel really good to give something of herself for my happiness. This is a big thing for an 8 year-old.
This is not the only example of what an amazing child Arianna is. She is such a respectful, thoughtful and caring kid. She is responsible and listens. She does simple chores for her weekly allowance, and she gladly repays daddy a portion of her weekly allowance to “pay her debt” for the money that daddy lent her for a Nintendo DS game. More than all of that, she is full of love.
How sweet of Arianna to want to give you her ipod… and that really is a big thing; for all kids want and love their ipods! We all are very lucky and blessed to have the thoughtful and caring children that we do! I love them all
It really was a touching moment. She has a way of bringing tears to my eyes.
Len, you are blessed with beautiful child. More so, you are blessed by your gratitude for her, and your appreciation of the beauty within Arianna will continue to reveal the love and light she came to share.
Well, they say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree or the drip from the facet, etc, etc. I guess what I’m pointing out is…..You and Jen have done well. Be proud of your daughter, but pat yourself (and Jenn) on the back too!!
I was going to make a snarky comment, really I was. But … awwww.
Seriously though, don’t think of it as a missing iPod, think of it as an excuse to buy a new iPhone.
