Stay Away From Spymac!

August 14th, 2004 | Technology

I previously told people to try Spymac, but I have to say, that the service has really gone down hill, in a big way. Spymac’s service was already hurting even before it decided to offer a free 1GB email account. Here are my reasons:

  1. Slow message boards! Spymac has to have the slowest message board on the internet. You may think it’s because of all of the images, but I am convinced that the images are not the problem. I have a very fast (3Mbps) cable connection, and the loading of the Spymac message boards still crawls for me.
  2. Slow and unreliable email service! I don’t normally use free webmail too much since I have my own domain, but it’s nice to use it once in a while. I have sent numerous messages that never arrived to the receipient. They have blocked email from yahoo.com (although I don’t know if they still block it). Not to mention, of course, it can be very slooooowwwww!
  3. ZERO support! The bottom line is they ignore your requests for support. Do they offer support for paid members? I would never know. When you send an email to support, you may as well send your email to a black hole. I was considering paying for their premium service, but being that all of my emails go unanswered, I feel uneasy about handing over my cash. Even Yahoo and MSN handles email support, even if it takes a while.
  4. Technical Glitches which are NEVER resolved! Changing your avatar in Spymac is apparantly a big deal, unlike other message boards. Basically, after you upload your image, there is some sort of image batch process, which updates your image to fit into the Spymac theme. While this is ‘processing’, you are given a ‘Processing Passport’ avatar, which is nothing more than a temporary avatar. That’s great and all, but mine has been processing since May! I’ve reuploaded it many many times with no luck. I’ve even tried to use one of their built-in avatars, but those do not work for me either. I’ve created a new account, which is able to update avatars with no problem, but I want to use my main account. Of course, all inquiries have gone unanswered.

So, I occasionally browse the boards, but I no longer post or have any involvement with the site.

What Nationality Is Perroots, Anyway???

July 11th, 2004 | Family

I’ve been asked that my entire life. And what I usually say is that it is ‘Americanized Italian.’ My last name is pronounced ‘Purr – roots’, however, the original Italian name was spelled ‘Parruzzi’. When my Italian ancestors pronounced their last name, it sounded like ‘Purr – roots’, so that’s how it was recorded at Ellis Island. Or, perhaps they were confused and wrote both spellings, the phoenetic and the actual (see below). All Italian names end in a vowel, but the vowel is not pronounced. All of this coupled with the confusion of thousands of non-English speaking Italians, and you get Perroots.

Yeah Baby!

June 4th, 2004 | Las Vegas, Travel

Ahhh. Las Vegas was good to me… I won over $2500 playing BlackJack! We stayed at Treasure Island and it was better than I thought it would be. We saw Penn & Teller and visited the usual Vegas attractions. Until next time…

Website updates

May 27th, 2004 | Website News

I’ve made some updates to the website. I’ve added a few movies and I’ve uplated the links page. I really have not had the time to do the things that I want to do with this site, but perhaps one day. The last thing that I want to do is spend all my free time at home programming.
